As soon as we reached headquarters, guards helped each of us out of the car. Then, they lead us in teams through the door. I went with Rikki. Our guard brought us to a long flight of stairs that seemed to go on forever. "At the end of the stairway, you will find another set of guards. They will take you to Jamal, who will tell you about your computer mission." With that, he sent us on our way.
The stairs did go on forever! Or it seemed like it. We had been walking for about 15 minutes and there were no signs that we were anywhere near the bottom. "Rikki?" I asked.
"Yeah?" Her voice was full of concern.
"Why are we going on another mission? I mean, we just finished one. It was our first, but are they really going to make us go out again?"I was worried and starting to babble.
"Kailey, I really don't know why they're sending us out again, or what we are going to have to do, but I do know one thing," She stopped walking and turned to face me. She grabbed both of my hands and looked into my eyes. "We will always be together, no matter how far apart we may seem. I hope you know that." She smiled at me and we kept walking.
After what seemed like hours, we finally reached the bottom. As the guard above said, two guards were waiting to take us to Jamal. The guards led us to two oak doors and opened them. "Jamal is waiting for you." The brown haired one said. We entered and the first thing we noticed was the giant deer head at the back of the room.
"That's a little intimidating." Rikki whispered into my ear.
I had to hold back a gasp when I saw all the computers lined up on the walls. If only Hailey were here, I thought. She would be having a blast just looking at them.
We continued to walk across the room and finally came to a wooden table. A darker man was sitting at the end of the table, with his head down. Rikki and I pulled out two chairs and quietly sat down. He heard us and his head rose with a jolt. "Oh!" He exclaimed. "You're here." He stood and brushed off his suit.
"Um, yeah," Rikki muttered with a twinge of annoyance in her voice. "You must be Jamal?"
"Oh, where are my manners? I am Jamal O'Brian. Pleased to meet you." He thrust out his hand and Rikki and I shook it.
"I'm Rikki."
"I'm Kailey."
"Welcome, girls, to my workshop!" He held out his hands as if his was waiting for dramatic music to play around them.
Rikki looked at him like he was crazy. "Right. Well, the guard upstairs told us that you had another mission for us?"
"Oh, yes." Jamal turned around and grabbed a stack of papers. "I need you girls to take this paper back upstairs. That's your mission!" He smiled at us and went back to sleeping.
Rikki growled under her breath. "We did not just walk down here for you to tell us that our 'mission' is to deliver a stack of stupid papers!!!" She screamed with rage and jumped at him. I quickly grabbed hold of her arms to hold her back.
"Rikki!" I yelled at her. "We need to remain calm and sort all of this out. Jamal, are you sure that is our only mission?" I asked him rather quickly because it was getting tiring hold Rikki back like this.
"That, my girls, was a test." He stood and looked right at us. "Which you passed with flying colors! You see, I wanted to know if you girls would react to having such a lowly mission, or if you were lazy enough to go along with it. You girls both proved that you are ready for the mission I am about to send you on." He sat back in his chair and motion for us to be seated.
As soon as we sat down, three computers appeared on the table. They were sleek and black. "You girls will be programming several different bugs and databases to do different things. This will help your sisters greatly. I know that both of you are not much for computers or programming, but all your other sisters are doing their own missions."
We examined the computers and thought hard. "Should we do this?" Rikki murmured to me.
"I think it's the best option we have right now." I whispered back.
"Alright, girls. Are you ready to begin this mission?" Jamal asked both with his voice and his eyes.
"We are ready." Both of us said out loud.
"Ok. You may begin."
With that, we dove into an unknown cyber world.
Love, Kailey
